Haiti Soleil auction update!

A silent auction held Saturday Feb. 13 at the home of Bloomington newcomer Micheline Fleurant raised $987.00 for California-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization Haiti Soleil. Auctioned items included clothing, textiles, visual art, jewelry, and handcrafts from Haiti, Ghana, West Africa, Thailand, Poland, Kenya, Mexico, Ecuador, Morocco, Benin, Ethiopia, Guatemala and the United States. Forty-nine items were sold in all.

The money will be used to help rebuild Bibliothèque du Soleil, a community library and cultural center in Carrefour-Feuilles that was destroyed during January’s earthquake. Immediate services will include emergency assistance such as counseling and support, child care, and documentation of the experiences of the community.

A second fundraiser is planned for August, to coincide with Bloomington families preparing to send their children back to school.

More information on Haiti Soleil can be found at www.haitisoleil.org or by writing info@haitisoleil.org.

One response to “Haiti Soleil auction update!

  1. On behalf of Bibliotheque du Soleil and the youth we support in the community of Carrefour-Feuilles, Haiti Soleil would like to thank the Bloomington community in general and Micheline Fleurant and Nadine Pinede in particular for supporting the rebuilding of our library in Haiti.

Haiti Soleil is grateful for Bloomington’s relief efforts towards the reconstruction of Haiti.

    Most sincerely,
    Nadege T. Clitandre
    Executive Director
